Typical Bowen session

During the client's first visit, you and your therapist will talk about your current condition and your health history, your  life style, daily activities, injures in the past and identify pain patterns, posture problems, and mobility restrictions that are caused by dysfunctional muscle tissue. Postural assessment may be performed if necessary. This will allow the therapist to get a better picture of the presented condition.

Then you will be invited to lie on the massage table. The therapist will carry out a series of pre-determined sequences of moves. The moves could be done through the light clothing, so there is no need to undress. There will be short breaks in between the sequences of moves when the practitioner will leave the room and will let you to rest.

These pauses allow the clients body time to respond and integrate the moves allowing the healing process to begin. The treatment continues in a similar manner until the required procedures are performed on the body.

The client may experience some sensations, such as warmth or tingling, or the feeling of general relaxation or some other reactions during the wait period which usually subsides with in the wait period. This can take from 15 minutes to an hour depending upon the client needs and reactions.

After the session, the client  will be helped off the table and invited to walk for a few minutes  to help alleviate possible residual pain experienced  standing up from the table. Substantial, if not total relief may be experienced by the end of the session or in following few days as the body continues to rebalance itself.

Treatment usually does not need to be continuous, and often just a very few sessions will change the situation.
